Curtin IEM Student Section members visit Borneo Safety Training Services
Posted date:Miri – 8 July 2015 – 22 undergraduate members of the Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Student Section made a study visit to Borneo Safety Training Services (BSTS) in Desa Senadin recently. They were from various departments of the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science.
The visit was initiated by the Curtin IEM Student Chapter committee with the aim of raising awareness of workplace safety and exposing the students to emergency response procedures practiced by industries, as well as the range of safety training provided by BSTS.
On hand to receive the group was BSTS Business Development Executive Rachel B. Mac, who also gave them a talk on the importance of occupational health and safety. They were later given a tour of the training facility and observed training sessions in progress.
Curtin IEM Student Chapter President Lee Mun Leong said witnessing trainees undergoing a thrilling 180 degree underwater helicopter escape training session was the highlight of the visit.
“It was a very fruitful visit. The exposure to offshore safety induction and emergency training allowed us to learn the basic requirements for working in the oil and gas industry,” he remarked.
BSTS is ISO 9001:2008 accredited and an Oil & Gas and Marine Approved Training and Assessment Centre.
