Curtin Sarawak students organise East Malaysia’s first foam party

Miri – 4 December 2015  The Red Crescent Voluntary Aid Detachment 57 (VAD 57) and International Student Association (ISA) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently organised the first foam party in East Malaysia at the university campus.

The ‘Summer Foam Festival 2015’ featuring mega inflatables from neighbouring Brunei proved a hit, attracting close to 300 participants.

According to VAD 57 commandant Kelvin Hew, the students made their own foam machine for the event. “All you need is a good blower, foam booster liquid, a bucket and a towel,” he remarked.
He added that the idea of organising a foam party came about during one of the VAD 57 committee’s gatherings, and the committee decided to collaborate with the ISA to make it a really spectacular first-ever foam festival in East Malaysia.

In addition to fun with foam, the event also included a variety of activities like an Obstacle Course Race, 3-on-3 Futsal competition and Human Bowling. It also featured song performances by students, as well as dance performances by members of the university’s Art and Dance Club and Zumba by Motion Family and Dance Studio Fusion.

The event was sponsored by Assistant Minister of Communications and Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is the chair of Curtin Sarawak’s management board, SAINS and Farmasi Permaisuri.
Encouraged by the success of this inaugural festival, organising committee member Bryan Lee said the VAD 57 welcomes other student clubs at Curtin Sarawak to collaborate with them on next year’s Summer Foam Fest.
