Financial services expert Dato’ Howard Choo to talk at Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 7 August 2015 – Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of IBH Investment Bank Limited and Director of Brahim’s Holdings Berhad, Dato’ Howard Choo Kah Hoe, will be giving a talk on careers in the financial services sector to students and staff of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 10 August 2015.

He is coming to Miri at the invitation of the Industry and External Relations Committee of Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Business and Humanities.

Dato’ Choo joins a string of prominent business professionals who have given lectures and talks at the faculty as part of its commitment to engage with industry and give its students opportunities to gain first-hand knowledge from industry experts.

Other invited speakers have included New Zealand economist Professor Brian Easton, business author Alan Voon, filmmaker Rosihan Zain, Kyoto University systems science professor Dr. Manabu Kano, and senior executives of Bank Negara, AmBank Group, Nokia Siemens Networks, Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group, Malaysia Productivity Corporation, Channel News Asia, CyberSecurity Malaysia, Companies Commission of Malaysia, Sarawak Oil Palm Group, KPMG Tax Services, Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia, Institute of Public Relations Malaysia, Eastspring Investments, Shell Malaysia and Shin Yang Shipping Corporation.

Dato’ Choo will talk about the Malaysian financial system, the country’s Financial Sector Masterplan, money supply, the strategic focus of banks, learning and development within the banking industry such as the Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme (FSTEP), the sector’s human resource philosophy, and other related matters.

Dato’ Choo has over 35 years of experience in local and international banking, including his current portfolio as the CEO of IBH Investment Bank Limited; former Executive Director of DBS Thai Danu Bank, Thailand; and Managing Director, Country Manager and Chief Representative for DBS Bank Ltd. Other positions he has held include Vice-Chairman of the Singapore-Thai Chamber of Commerce and member of the Executive Decision Panel, Bank of Thailand. He is also an advisor to University Malaysia Sabah in International Business and advisor to Persatuan Usahawan Muda Malaysia.

He is currently a committee member of the MCA SME Development Bureau, member of National Institute of Accountants, Australia (PNA), and a trainer for South East Asia Central Bank Training Centre (SEACEN).

Dato’ Choo has authored three books on banking, published by the Institute of Banks, Malaysia, has presented several numerous seminar papers on the financial services sector, as well as spoken at public forums in Malaysia and Thailand.

He holds a degree in Company Administration from Sheffield Hallam University and an MBA from the University of Wales and Manchester Business School. He holds professional qualifications as a Chartered Company Secretary, ACIS and is a founding and fellow member of the Malaysian Institute of Commercial and Industrial Accountants, FCIA and also a Fellow member of the Institute of Public Accountants, Australia, IPA.

In 1995, he set up DBS Bank (then known as the Development Bank of Singapore) Offshore Banking Branch in Labuan and grew its business into the top five most profitable overseas operations within a period of three years.
