First big stage production of Romeo and Juliet at Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 23 October 2015 – If you’re interested in dance, music and intense drama, you are invited to ‘Romeo and Juliet: A Twist in Time’, the first big stage production staged jointly by the Curtin Theatre Club and Curtin Arts & Dance Club of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak).

It will be held on 7 November 2015 at 6 pm in Curtin Sarawak’s Auditorium.

Tickets are priced at RM10 (individual) and RM15 (couple) for staff and students of Curtin Sarawak and RM15 (individual) and RM25 (couple) for members of the public.

The play aims to conserve the declining culture of theatre and performing arts among the younger generation, as well as encourage budding young actors to appreciate and develop an interest in literature and classical plays.

The idea for the play was first mooted by second-year accounting and finance student Amsal Sarang, second-year hospitality and tourism management and marketing student Lavan Rajendra and second-year mass communication student Lorraine Disimond.

Club advisor and lecturer of public relations Dr. Kamala Vainy Pillai said it is gratifying to see students from the Faculty of Engineering and Science and Faculty of Business and Humanities coming together for the love of theatre and arts.

Meanwhile, student advisor and second-year accounting and finance student Umar Abbas said the Curtin Theatre Club strongly believes in striking a balance between studies and extracurricular activities. He also thanked Village Mobile Sound System for sponsoring the sound and light system for the production.
