Police motorcycle patrol unit gets thumbs up from Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 24 July 2015 – The recent launch of the Motorcycle Patrolling Unit (MPU) for the Desa Senadin and Permyjaya areas by the police has gotten the thumbs up from the management and students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak).

Members of the campus community led by Chief Operating Officer Kingsley Francis Charles were present at the launch at the Desa Senadin Commercial Area near the campus to show their support.

The university management has pledged to work hand in hand with the local police to keep the surrounding areas where the university has off-campus accommodations for its students safe.

According to Kingsley, though the university has its own security personnel providing a 24-hour presence and surveillance of its managed student accommodations at Curtin Village, Curtin Villa and Curtin Water in Desa Senadin, the continued presence of police patrol units would be a great reassurance to both students and staff living in there.

Officiating at the launch was Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also the chair of Curtin Sarawak’s management board. Also present were Miri Acting Police Chief Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, area community leaders and members of the public.

During the launch, Datuk Lee announced that a building in Desa Senadin has been identified to be used as a police station pending approval of the rental charges from the National Treasury.

The Miri District Police Headquarters (Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah) Crime Prevention and Community Safety Unit now has 25 patrol cars and 17 high-powered motorcycles for patrolling purposes.
