Working together to ensure a safe neighbourhood

Miri – 4 December 2015 – A team from Persatuan Kepolisan Komuniti (Community Policing Miri) led by their chairman, Dato’ Hu Kuok Wei, met with our Chief Security Officer, Anuar Edrews recently to assess and discuss security and community policing in the Desa Senadin area where our university-managed student housing areas are located. Also present was Sim Siaw Seng, Community Policing Miri’s Patrol Chief Ex-co. The visit was facilitated by Miri District Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit and Curtin Sarawak Chief Operating Officer, Kingsley F. Charles.

Community Policing Miri is an NGO that embraces the philosophy of community policing in its efforts to create a safer environment for Miri residents. Community policing is based upon a partnership between the police and the community whereby the police and the community share responsibility for identifying, reducing, eliminating and preventing problems that impact community safety and order. Miri’s Community Policing (CP) programme was initiated by the Miri police earlier this year as part of the force’s initiatives to build and strengthen rapport with the community it serves.

Miri Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Deputy Superintendent Collin Babat says the CP programme has received a positive response from the public in Miri since its launch.
