Miri – 7 July 2014 – 16 members of the Curtin Bowling Club of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently carried out community service activities at Rumah Amal Anak Kesayangan Kami Miri, which was most welcomed by the 30 children at the home.

The club members were led by club advisor and associate lecturer of engineering mathematics Jameson Malang. The event started with a brief introduction of the purpose of the visit and short speeches were delivered by club president and final-year mechanical engineering student Henry Ngu and home caretaker Puan Jamaliah.

The members were split into two groups as the children are housed in two dwellings according to gender. Among the activities organised were the cleaning of the houses, games with the children and an afternoon tea.

According to Puan Jamaliah, Rumah Amal Anak Kesayangan Kami Miri houses 14 boys and 16 girls who come from broken homes or poor families. She expressed her gratitude to the club members for organising such an event, adding that the children were very happy with the activities arranged for them.

Meanwhile, Jameson said the club members spent considerable time and effort to organise the event to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves and benefitted from it. He added the club looks forward to organising more meaningful events in the future.
