Curtin Malaysia academic contributes to national dialogue on MSME digitalisation

Miri, Sarawak – 14 June 2025 – Dr. Lynn Ling Yew Hua, an accomplished academic from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), recently took part in a high-level roundtable on digitalisation for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), organised by the Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) in Kuala Lumpur.

The MSME Digitalisation Roundtable 2025 brought together national thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to examine the digital transformation of Malaysia’s MSME sector – widely regarded as a critical engine of economic growth and innovation.

Dr. Ling, a lecturer in Accounting and Finance, was among a select group of participants invited to share expert insights on the digital readiness of MSMEs. Drawing from her research in digital innovation and practical work in SME development, she offered strategic perspectives on how digital tools can empower small businesses to thrive in the evolving digital economy.

“It was an honour to represent Curtin Malaysia in such an important national conversation,” said Dr. Ling. “Digitalisation is more than just adopting new technology; it is about enabling inclusive growth, building resilience, and ensuring MSMEs in all regions, including Sarawak, are part of Malaysia’s digital future.”

The roundtable was opened by Dr. Rachel Gong, Deputy Director of Research at KRI, and featured a keynote presentation by Azfar Asa’ad, Senior Advisor of CPA Australia. Key topics included barriers to digital adoption, capacity gaps, and policy directions to accelerate MSME digital competitiveness.

Dr. Ling’s participation reflects Curtin Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to impactful research, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives aligned with Malaysia’s digital economy agenda.

Curtin Malaysia continues to play an active role in supporting national and regional development goals through academic-industry collaboration and thought leadership.
