Curtin Malaysia academics shine in CEIT Awards and Curtin Academy Inductions 2024
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 25 November 2024 – Five exceptional educators from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to teaching and learning excellence in the Curtin Excellence and Innovation in Teaching (CEIT) Awards and the Curtin Academy Fellow Inductions 2024.
Their achievements highlight the campus’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in education across Curtin’s campuses globally. In addition to its main campus and regional campuses in Western Australia, Curtin University has global campuses in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
Professor Tang Fu Ee, Dean of the Office of Learning and Teaching at Curtin Malaysia, led the accolades by clinching the Outstanding Contribution to Learning and Teaching Award in the Individual, Global Category. Professor Tang was also inducted as a Curtin Academy Fellow, joining the prestigious ranks of Associate Professor Raymond Chiong, Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science.
Meanwhile, Dr. Anita Jimmie, Senior Teaching Fellow from the Department of Work Integrated Learning and Language at Curtin Malaysia’s School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE), was inducted as a Curtin Academy Associate Fellow, cementing her position as a dedicated advocate for transformative education.
Curtin Malaysia achieved further distinction with a clean sweep in the Teaching Excellence for Global Staff category, with accolades going to Dr. Anita, Delon Chai Wei How, Associate Director of Learning and Teaching at SPACE, and Dr. Tiong Ying Ying, Senior Lecturer of Management, Marketing and Digital Business and Associate Dean of Research and Development at the Faculty of Business.
Reflecting on his dual recognition, Professor Tang said, “I’m deeply honoured to be acknowledged by my peers. These awards represent the collective commitment of my colleagues and me to continuously elevate teaching standards and foster a culture of innovation.”
For Dr. Anita, the recognition underscores her dedication to creating meaningful educational experiences. “Winning these awards fills me with immense pride. It validates our commitment to designing engaging, student-centred learning environments, and inspires me to keep evolving as an educator,” she shared.
Chai emphasised the importance of nurturing growth for both students and staff, saying, “This award is a testament to the value of fostering a supportive, inspiring learning environment. I am grateful to the Curtin community for championing these ideals.”
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Chiong expressed excitement about joining the Curtin Academy, stating, “Being inducted is a milestone in my academic journey. I look forward to collaborating with the academy’s inspiring community to promote teaching excellence.”
Dr. Tiong shared a poignant reflection on her CEIT Award journey, recalling how her aspirations were sparked in 2022 while witnessing a colleague’s win. “Carrying that award planted a seed of inspiration in me. Receiving my own CEIT Award now feels like a dream realised and a responsibility to further enhance student learning experiences,” she said.
These accolades highlight Curtin Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to educational excellence and its faculty’s determination to shape an enriching academic environment for students.
