Curtin Malaysia and ICSB ignite youth innovation at Entrepreneurship Bootcamp
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 19 December 2024 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and the International Council for Small Businesses (ICSB) recently joined forces to champion the pivotal role of youth in innovation and sustainable business practices through the Youth Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (YEB). Held at MILA University, Putra Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, the bootcamp formed a key highlight of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) World Forum KL 2024.
The event brought together aspiring young entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and academic experts, creating a vibrant platform for collaboration and growth. With its innovative approach, YEB combined masterclasses, mentorship, networking opportunities, and hands-on training to inspire the next generation of changemakers.
The bootcamp featured a stellar line-up of speakers and mentors who delivered insights across critical aspects of entrepreneurship. Two keynote speeches stood out as particularly impactful: ‘The Role of Youth in Entrepreneurship and Innovation’ by Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICSB, and ‘Introduction to Humane Entrepreneurship’ by Professor Ki-Chan Kim, Chairman of ICSB.
These thought-provoking addresses emphasised the transformative power of youth-driven innovation and humane entrepreneurship, captivating the audience with their forward-looking perspectives.
The pitching competition was a high-energy highlight of the bootcamp. Participants formed teams to propose innovative solutions to pressing sustainability challenges. The results were nothing short of extraordinary, with creative ideas ranging from technological advancements to social impact initiatives.
One standout proposal explored the use of biotechnology to address global food security – a concept that impressed judges with its originality and potential for real-world impact.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business and Organising Lead for YEB, said, “Youth entrepreneurship is a cornerstone of global progress and economic resilience. Initiatives like the YEB empower young leaders with the skills, confidence, and vision needed to drive transformative change.”
Dr. Ayman lauded the participants, noting, “The students showcased a remarkable grasp of entrepreneurship and displayed a genuine determination to create meaningful change. Their active engagement and innovative ideas promise a bright future for the entrepreneurial landscape.”
The YEB at the SME World Forum KL reinforced Curtin Malaysia’s and ICSB’s shared commitment to nurturing a generation of innovative, socially conscious entrepreneurs. By fostering entrepreneurial mindsets, the event equipped participants to tackle challenges in a rapidly evolving world and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future for SMEs globally.
