Curtin Malaysia and Idea Company forge transformative collaboration

Miri, Sarawak – 30 July 2024 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is poised for a transformative journey, having signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Idea Company (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd (ICSB). The partnership is set to transform the landscape of innovation, education, and industry collaboration in the region.

The MoU was signed by Professor Simon Leunig, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, and Ahmad Zachry Anifah Aman, Group Managing Director of ICSB, during a ceremony held at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business.

The event was attended by prominent representatives from both institutions, underscoring the significance of the collaboration. From Curtin Malaysia, they included Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Yip Ka Yii, Associate Dean of External Engagement; Dr. Tiong Ying, Associate Dean of Research and Development; Dr. Fayrene Chieng, Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching; Associate Professor Lew Tek Yew, Head of the Department of Management, Marketing, and Digital Business; and Dr. Ting Qian Hui and Dr. Ho Jie Min, lecturers in Management, Marketing and Digital Business.

Meanwhile, ICSB was represented by Pang Su Yen, Group Director; Datuk Lee Swi Heng, Group Chief Operating Officer; Dr. Michael Sim Yaw Seng, Chief Operating Officer; and Jonathan Lim, Programme Administrator.

In his speech during the ceremony, Professor Leunig highlighted the shared vision and commitment of Curtin Malaysia and ICSB. “This MoU marks a significant milestone in our mission to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a dynamic global landscape. By partnering with Idea Company, renowned for its expertise and extensive network in the agricultural industry, we are taking a bold step towards fostering innovation and practical learning.”

The MoU outlines a framework for a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship, focusing on key areas such as workforce training programs, industrial exposure, internships, job placements, research and development, and the establishment of a joint working team. Professor Leunig emphasised the importance of remaining adaptable to explore new areas of cooperation, given the evolving nature of both industries.
