Curtin Malaysia and PMIMY host webinar on AI in Project Management

Miri, Sarawak – 31 July 2024 – In a landmark collaboration, the Department of Built Environment at Curtin University Malaysia’s (Curtin Malaysia) Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences teamed up with the Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) to host an illuminating guest lecture titled ‘Unlocking AI for Project Management’ via webinar recently

Marking Curtin Malaysia’s 25th anniversary and the global Project Management Institute (PMI)’s 30th anniversary, the webinar brought together a diverse audience of 67 professionals and students to delve into the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) in project management.

The guest speaker, Preeta Nair, Vice President at PMI, shared her extensive experience and passion for AI in project management. Holding numerous professional certifications, including Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, and Scrum, Preeta offered valuable insights into AI’s potential to revolutionise project management practices.

Preeta’s presentation covered the fundamental concepts of AI and its practical applications in enhancing project management processes. She showcased real-world AI applications poised to reshape the project management landscape and discussed the ethical considerations of AI implementation. Emphasising the irreplaceable value of human judgment and reasoning, she highlighted the necessity for professionals to understand, adopt, and use AI technology ethically as the world advances into the digital age.

The webinar was well-received, with participants from various disciplines, including Construction Management, Project Management, Civil Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Nevina Tham Li Phing, a Construction Management student, remarked, “The speaker was well experienced and had great knowledge regarding AI in project management. I also gained many insights into using AI in managing a project.”

This collaboration between Curtin Malaysia and PMIMY not only celebrated their significant anniversaries but also provided a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and professional development. The event prepared the next generation of project managers to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by the digital era and smart technologies.
