Curtin Malaysia and Taiwan’s YunTech forge partnership in engineering and innovation
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 15 November 2024 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has solidified its commitment to international collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech), Taiwan. The MoU, exchanged during a visit to YunTech’s campus, marks the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at driving advanced research, fostering knowledge exchange, and enhancing global education.
Associate Professor Stephanie Chan, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, represented Curtin Malaysia at the MoU exchange ceremony. The MoU had been previously signed by Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chyen, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Malaysia, while YunTech’s President, Professor Yang Neng-Shu, represented his institution. Witness to the signing was YunTech’s Dean of Office of International Affairs, Associate Professor Pan Wei-Hwa.
This strategic agreement sets the stage for several key collaborations, including an alliance with YunTech’s Emergency Response Information Centre, providing cutting-edge training opportunities. The partnership will also enable faculty and student exchanges with YunTech’s College of Engineering, along with potential dual-degree programmes and research projects designed to address global challenges.
“The signing of this MoU marks a crucial milestone in our efforts to foster impactful international partnerships,” remarked Dr. Chan. “By pooling our expertise and resources, Curtin Malaysia and YunTech are poised to create a sustainable, long-lasting collaboration that will not only benefit both universities but also enrich the global academic and research community.”
During her visit, Dr. Chan engaged in discussions with YunTech’s esteemed academics, including Professor Jao-Jia Horng, Director of the Emergency Response Information Center, and Dr. Cheng-Kuo Tsai, Assistant Research Professor, to outline specific areas for collaboration. These discussions highlighted mutual goals in sustainability, digital transformation, and innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
This partnership aligns with Curtin Malaysia’s vision of preparing students to excel in a globalised world and positions the institution as a key player in fostering international alliances that drive academic and industry progress. It also reflects YunTech’s commitment to expanding its international network and leading in critical areas like emergency response and sustainable engineering.
With this MoU, Curtin Malaysia continues to solidify its role as a pioneer in global education, while YunTech benefits from the collaborative research opportunities and resources this partnership will bring.
