Curtin Malaysia business students deliver real-world solutions to local industries through Student-Powered Research Agency

Miri, Sarawak – 25 August 2025 – Business students from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) have successfully delivered industry-ready market research solutions to four local enterprises under the innovative Student-Powered Research Agency project, blending classroom learning with real business impact.

Over three months, the students worked in consultancy-style teams with Shin Yang Group, Bite Bliss Bakery, MP Advanced Automotive, and Lao Yang Dim Sum Restaurant, conducting professional-level research to address pressing business challenges. The initiative, which ran from May to July, culminated in the delivery of comprehensive final reports on 21 July 2025.

From designing surveys and collecting data to analysing results and presenting tailored recommendations, the students provided actionable insights in areas such as business development, marketing strategies, and customer engagement. Several client organisations have already indicated plans to implement the recommendations into their business strategies.

“This project transcends traditional classroom learning,” said Dr. Ho Jie Min, who spearheaded the initiative with support from Yip Ka Yii and Dr. Ivy Hii. “Our students are not only sharpening critical skills in research, communication, and problem-solving; they are also contributing to the growth of local businesses.”

The project is part of Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to experiential learning and industry collaboration, ensuring graduates are work-ready and able to tackle complex, real-world problems.

The industry partners praised the students’ professionalism and fresh perspectives, highlighting the value of engaging with young researchers who bring new ideas and approaches.

The success of the Student-Powered Research Agency reflects Curtin Malaysia’s strong ties with the local business community and its mission to develop graduates who are both academically prepared and industry-savvy.
