Curtin Malaysia Careers Fair 2025 draws over 1,000 participants and close to 50 employers

Miri, Sarawak – 18 September 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) proudly marked another milestone as its flagship Curtin Malaysia Careers Fair 2025 drew over 1,000 students, graduates, and job-seekers eager to explore opportunities with 49 leading organisations from across diverse industries.

The two-day fair on 11 and 12 September, which has grown into one of Sarawak’s most anticipated career events, featured companies from finance, consulting, engineering, technology, plantations, oil and gas, manufacturing, retail, education, and more.

The event was officiated by Miri City Councillor Leslie Lau, representing the guest of honour Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) of Sarawak.

Datuk Ting, in his remarks, praised the Careers Fair’s transformation over the past 15 years from a campus initiative into a regional career platform. He emphasised that the fair is more than a recruitment drive; it is about creating meaningful opportunities for growth, employability, and community development.

“For students and graduates, this is a chance to showcase their talents, discover their strengths, and embark on career paths that will shape their futures. For the wider Miri community, it serves as a reminder that opportunities for progress are within reach of everyone, not just those in higher education,” he said.

He added that the event’s inclusivity aligns with the Sarawak government’s goal of nurturing a future-ready workforce that is skilled, adaptable, and resilient in the face of global and technological change.

Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Vincent Lee echoed this sentiment, describing the Careers Fair as one of Sarawak’s largest and most vibrant platforms for career development.

“This event is not limited to students. By opening it to the wider community, we create access to opportunities, insights, and industry networks for all job-seekers in Miri and beyond. Whether participants secure internships, job interviews, or simply fresh perspectives, they walk away with something of lasting value,” he said.

Professor Lee further highlighted the role of industry partnerships in shaping graduate success.

“Universities can inspire, but without strong collaboration with industry, we cannot fully prepare our students for the realities ahead. Your internships, mentorship, and training empower our students with the skills and confidence they need. Together, we are not only preparing graduates but building a stronger workforce for Sarawak, Malaysia, and the world,” he remarked.

Adding to the diversity of the event this year, the Commercial Crimes Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters participated for the first time, raising awareness of online scams among job-seekers.

Distinguished attendees included Sharon Chong, Chief Operating Officer of Curtin Malaysia; Chin Li Yen, Careers and Alumni Relations Manager; Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science; Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business; and Associate Professor Fidella, Dean of the School of Pre-U and Continuing Education, alongside faculty members, managers, and staff.

The Curtin Malaysia Careers Fair continues to be a vital bridge between students, graduates, job-seekers, and the industries shaping Sarawak’s future, cementing its role as both a career launchpad and a community-wide platform for opportunity and growth.
