Curtin Malaysia celebrates exceptional student achievements
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 23 March 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia’s Faculty of Business recently honoured the outstanding academic accomplishments of its students at its Faculty of Business Student Awards and Dean’s List Presentation Ceremony. The event, a highlight of the academic year, was a powerful celebration of excellence, determination, and the future potential of the university’s brightest minds.
In his address during the ceremony, Professor Vincent Lee, Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, praised the generous sponsors whose unwavering support made the event possible. These included Crowe Malaysia, the Institute of Marketing Malaysia (IMM), the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants x Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (MICPA x CA ANZ), CPA Australia, and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad.
“Your contributions are vital in motivating our students to reach their full potential,” Professor Lee stated. His speech was delivered by Professor Tang Fu Ee, Dean of Learning and Teaching at Curtin Malaysia.
Professor Lee also recognised the award recipients, telling them that their recognition was just the beginning of an exciting journey. “Let these awards inspire you to continue striving for greatness. Your hard work and determination have led you to this moment, and we are confident that even greater success lies ahead for each of you,” he said.
Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business, reiterated the faculty’s dedication to fostering both academic excellence and holistic student development. She highlighted the Academic Excellence Bootcamps, which provide students with essential skills in referencing, academic integrity, and industry networking. These initiatives, she said, were vital in preparing students for the professional world.
“Academic success is only one part of the equation. Extracurricular activities are equally important, as they help cultivate leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills – qualities that are highly sought after by employers,” said Professor Ho. She also expressed her excitement about the continued collaboration with industry partners and looked forward to expanding these opportunities in the future.
The ceremony’s sponsors were well-represented, including Matthew Wong, Senior Partner at Crowe Malaysia; Leong Pui Kuan, Careers Engagement Manager at MICPA CA-ANZ; Marieanne Morris, Country Manager of Global Member Experience at CPA Australia; and Joseph Ling, Head of Support and Services at Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, all present to show their support for the students.
Several prestigious awards were presented during the ceremony, including the Crowe Malaysia Outstanding Scholar Award, which went to Sim Xin Ru, and the IMM Outstanding Scholar Awards, which were shared by Yam Yee Chi and Marsha Pramita Putri.
Other notable accolades included the MICPA x CA ANZ Book Prize, awarded to Sim Hao En and Edwin Sim Mao Heng, and the CPA Australia ACE Scholarship, which went to Fong Jun How, Lenna Wee Lee Jin and Liow Tze Yee. The Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad Excellence Education Awards were also presented to Sim Hao En and Sim Xin Ru, further acknowledging their exceptional academic performance.
In addition, 22 students received the coveted Dean’s List Award for their outstanding performance across various units, underscoring the level of talent and hard work within the faculty. They comprised Alexander Jacklya Bin Dakius, Justin Su, Hii Teng Hua, Yam Yee Chi, Celest Wong Qian Qian, Loh Yue Ning, Lubna Iqbal Khan, Marsha Pramita Putri, Deniellson Kays Anak Davy, Diva Nasywaa Irawan, Diva Najwa Salsabilla, Edwin Sim Mao Heng, Tang Sze Kiet, Li Wui Han, Roma Fay Sales Mangahas, Ashutosh Basnyat, Tho Yuan Xin, Brandon Chai Chan An, Sim Xin Ru, Siti Hadjar Binti Hasmadi, Tiong Siew Hie, and Tan Rou Yiing.
The ceremony was not just about celebrating past achievements, but also about motivating future success. As the evening concluded, Professor Ho shared her vision for the future, emphasising that the hard work and dedication of the students would pave the way for a brighter future for both the graduates and the broader community.
