Curtin Malaysia empowering educators, introducing them to the future of learning

Miri, Sarawak – 19 July 2024 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted a knowledge transfer programme, ‘Empowering Educators: Integrating Technology for Enhanced Learning’, that promises to revolutionise education for teachers from Riam Road Secondary School and Riam Hill International Secondary School.

The event, a collaborative effort spearheaded by a dynamic team of lecturers from Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, aimed to equip educators with cutting-edge skills and knowledge to seamlessly integrate technology into their teaching practices. The team comprised Dr. Joseph Sia, Dr. Low Wai Wah, Dr. Lynn Ling Yew Hua, Dr. Ivy Hii Siaw Hung, and programme leader Dr. Fayrene Chieng.

In partnership with Institute Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPG), Miri, this transformative one-day programme focused on providing practical strategies and innovative techniques to enhance learning experiences and outcomes for students in the digital age.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from teachers eager to embrace the future of education. Highlights included interactive workshops, hands-on sessions, and inspiring keynote presentations by esteemed faculty members Dr. Lynn Ling Yew Hua, Dr. Ivy Hii Siaw Hung, and Dr. Low Wai Wah, all of whom have extensive expertise and experience in the application of educational technology.

The participants delved into the latest digital tools, applications, and pedagogical approaches, covering essential topics such as educational technology tools (discovering cutting-edge tools to enhance classroom learning), engagement through digital platforms (strategies to boost student engagement with interactive and multimedia-rich content), blended and online learning (creating dynamic learning environments that seamlessly blend traditional and digital methods).

At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Chieng expressed her satisfaction with the programme’s execution and the enthusiastic feedback from attendees. “Today marks a significant step forward in our mission to empower educators with the skills and confidence to leverage technology in their teaching practices. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by the participants have been truly inspiring. We are confident that the knowledge gained here will translate into more dynamic and effective learning environments for students.”
