Curtin Malaysia empowers RRSS students with essential financial skills

Miri, Sarawak – 30 April 2025 Students at Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) took a big step toward financial confidence recently, thanks to an interactive Financial Literacy Outreach session conducted by the Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).

Led by lecturers Yip Ka Yii and Dr. Ivy Hii, the session equipped Form 4 and Form 5 students with practical knowledge on personal finance, covering essentials like earning, saving, spending wisely, and protecting their finances. Designed to be engaging and relatable, the session helped the students make real-world connections to money management in their daily lives.

“Financial literacy is a life skill, not just a subject,” said Dr. Hii. “By introducing these concepts early, we are empowering students to make smarter financial choices and plan confidently for their futures.”

The session also introduced students to basic accounting principles, providing a solid foundation for understanding how financial systems work, knowledge which can benefit them not only academically but also in their future careers.

To reinforce what they learned, the students took part in an interactive financial game, which transformed complex financial concepts into a fun and memorable experience.

This outreach effort is part of Curtin Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and educational empowerment, particularly in preparing young learners to develop strong financial habits and participate confidently in finance-related competitions and opportunities.
