Curtin Malaysia entrepreneurship students gain real-world business insights at Ainsons teambuilding event

Miri, Sarawak – 24 June 2025 – Seven student leaders from Curtin University Malaysia’s Entrepreneurship Club recently stepped out of the classroom and into the real world of business at the Ainsons Team Building Day 3, held at the Mercure Hotel, Miri.

The event, part of the Crafting and Digital Media Community Engagement Programme’s Mastermind Forum, offered the students an immersive, hands-on experience in entrepreneurship and innovation, with a strong focus on digital marketing, cross-cultural collaboration, and sustainable business development.

Guided by Dr. Tiong Ying Ying from Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, the students engaged in a dynamic series of sessions led by regional business leaders and international influencers from Brunei and the Philippines. These included interactive workshops, mentorship sessions, and real-time networking with entrepreneurs from sectors spanning craft industries, food production, tourism, and personal branding.

A standout moment of the day was a Research and Development (R&D) workshop led by Curtin PhD candidate Athena Chong, where students and entrepreneurs collaborated on SWOT analyses and crafted compelling unique selling propositions (USPs) tailored to local industries.

“This initiative bridged the gap between academia and industry,” said Dr. Tiong. “It empowered our students to apply entrepreneurial theory to real-world challenges while contributing meaningfully to the local business ecosystem.”

One student described the networking experience as “transformative,” noting that connections made at the event have already led to new collaborations. “We have invited several of the entrepreneurs we met to be guest speakers at our upcoming Entrepreneurship Monthly Seminar-Webinar series,” the student shared.

Curtin Malaysia thanked the organisers of Ainsons Team Building for providing a valuable platform to nurture innovation, digital literacy, and community-driven entrepreneurship—key pillars in Curtin’s mission to cultivate work-ready, future-focused graduates.
