Curtin Malaysia expands global reach with strategic MoIs signed with top Chinese universities

Miri, Sarawak 9 May 2025 Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is strengthening its international academic footprint through new strategic partnerships with three prominent universities in China, paving the way for greater cross-border collaboration in research, innovation, and education.

The university formalised Memorandums of Intent (MoIs) with Shenyang Aerospace University, Shenyang Normal University, and Liaoning Petroleum University in three separate online ceremonies held recently. These agreements signal a robust commitment to joint academic development, talent exchange, and research-driven solutions to global challenges.

“International collaboration is at the heart of our mission,” said Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen, Curtin Malaysia’s Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, and Chief Executive, who led the signings.

“These partnerships open doors to deeper cooperation in areas critical to the future, from sustainable energy and advanced engineering to global business and education systems.”

The MoIs outline a comprehensive framework for partnership, including joint research initiatives in key areas of mutual interest; staff and student exchange programmes; co-hosted academic conferences, seminars, and workshops; and development of custom education and professional training programmes.

Members of Curtin Malaysia’s leadership team joined Professor Lee during the ceremonies, including Sharon Chong Pau Fang, Chief Operating Officer; Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science; Professor Pauline Ho Poh Ling, Dean of the Faculty of Business; and Debora Caroline, Senior Director of Future Students and External Engagement.

Representatives from CMC Consult Sdn. Bhd., who facilitated the signings, and senior administrators from the three Chinese universities, also participated, highlighting the significance of the partnerships in advancing bilateral academic cooperation between Malaysia and China.

As a regional leader in global education, Curtin Malaysia continues to leverage digital platforms and strategic alliances to drive forward-thinking academic collaboration and enhance opportunities for its students and research community.
