Curtin Malaysia inspires nearly 700 students through STEM Carnival and SuCCESS Maths Workshop
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 14 September 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently ignited curiosity and passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through its highly anticipated STEM Carnival and SuCCESS Maths Workshop, drawing nearly 700 enthusiastic students from SMK Subis.
The STEM Carnival welcomed over 600 Form One to Form Three students, immersing them in hands-on showcases of engineering innovations. From mechanical designs and civil structures to chemical experiments, software solutions, and electrical and electronic projects, Curtin Malaysia’s student-led exhibitions offered real-world glimpses into the endless possibilities of STEM careers.
Running alongside was the SuCCESS Maths Workshop, where 65 Form Four students honed their problem-solving skills through quizzes, exam-style challenges, and interactive discussions designed to build confidence ahead of their major examinations.
The event was officially launched by Lucy Suliman, Principal of SMK Subis, and Lim Chuan Jet, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section, Miri Branch, alongside Curtin Malaysia faculty and staff.
Organising Chairman Jameson Malang, a Teaching Fellow at Curtin Malaysia’s School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE), praised the dedication of Curtin’s student volunteers who brought the carnival to life. He urged participants to “study hard and seize every learning opportunity,” and further emphasised the importance of professionals giving back to the community.
Jameson also expressed his gratitude to Yayasan Sarawak for its support, and highlighted plans to expand outreach efforts to inspire even more rural students in the future.
The event’s success was further strengthened by the contributions of Mohd. Hafiz Aiman Abdullah, Head of the Chemistry Unit at SMK Subis, who played a key role in coordinating the programme.
With its blend of learning, fun, and discovery, the STEM Carnival and SuCCESS Maths Workshop not only sparked excitement among young learners but also underscored Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing future innovators and problem-solvers for Sarawak and beyond.
