Curtin Malaysia Pre-Graduation Gathering inspires final-year students for the journey ahead

Miri, Sarawak – 9 October 2025 – Marking the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of an exciting new chapter, Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently held a Pre-Graduation Gathering to celebrate and prepare 108 final-year students as they take their first steps into the professional world.

The event brought together soon-to-be graduates from the Faculties of Engineering and Science, Business, and Humanities and Health Sciences for a day of learning, reflection, and celebration. It featured practical briefings, inspirational sharing sessions, and networking opportunities designed to equip the students for life beyond the university.

The combined session was officiated by Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, on behalf of Professor Vincent Lee, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia.

In his address, Professor Vu reminded the students that graduation marks not an ending, but a beginning filled with opportunity and promise.

“It is a time to stand tall, to reflect on the resilience you have shown, and to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead,” he said.

He also congratulated the students on joining a global Curtin alumni network of over 270,000 graduates worldwide, including more than 20,000 in Malaysia.

“Over 10,000 graduates from Curtin Malaysia alone have carried forward the reputation of this campus – Curtin University’s largest global campus and ASEAN hub – as a place that nurtures talent of global calibre. And soon, you will take your place among them,” he added.

The afternoon began with faculty-specific sessions, followed by a combined session that covered essential updates on graduation procedures, academic requirements, postgraduate pathways, and alumni privileges, including exclusive career support and discounts.

A highlight of the gathering was an alumni sharing forum, where four accomplished Curtin Malaysia alumni – Emir Imran Tan and Gigi Hii Shu Qi (Faculty of Engineering and Science), Wong Rui Jing (Faculty of Business), and Guang Ao Goh (Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences) – offered real-world perspectives on career growth, industry trends, and navigating life after graduation.

The event concluded on a festive note with a lucky draw and group photo session, leaving the students inspired, optimistic, and ready to embark on their next chapter as Curtin graduates.

Among those present were Professor John Lau Sie Yon, Deputy Dean of the Curtin Malaysia Graduate School; Valerie Velina Anaelechi, Head of the Department of General Studies (MPU), Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences; and Chin Li Yen, Manager of Careers and Alumni Relations.
