Curtin Malaysia seals strategic MoUs with Imasa Dinasti and Fudan University to advance AI-driven healthcare in Sarawak
Posted date:Miri, 23 November 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has taken a major step toward positioning Miri as a regional hub for AI-enabled healthcare innovation, signing two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) Summit 2025 held at the old Miri City Council (MCC) building today.
The first MoU establishes a partnership between Curtin Malaysia, Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd. to collaborate on joint events and community engagement, talent development and internship opportunities, research and innovation in smart and sustainable infrastructure, strategic partnership and promotion to enhance education–industry collaboration and position Miri as a hub for education, innovation, and sustainable development.
A second MoU between Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science and Fudan University’s Institute of Integrative Medicine strengthens academic and research ties between the two institutions. The agreement covers joint research projects, academic exchanges, co-supervision of postgraduate students and the development of scholarship programmes, enhancing interdisciplinary research collaboration in AI driven digital healthcare
Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Malaysia, Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu, represented the university at the signing ceremony. He was joined by Tan Sri Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of Imasa Dinasti, and Professor Dong Jing Cheng, Director of Fudan University’s Institute of Integrative Medicine.
Witnessing the ceremony, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the partnerships would nurture local talent, accelerate Sarawak’s innovation ecosystem and expand access to world-class expertise and facilities. He commended Curtin Malaysia, Fudan University, Imasa Dinasti and the TAK Group for their commitment to high-impact collaboration and innovation in the region.
The KSC Summit 2025 was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government. The opening ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Xing Weiping, and Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching Dr Abdullah Zulkifli, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Miri Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii.
