Curtin Malaysia secures MoU with Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia

Miri, Sarawak – 4 December 2024 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has reached a significant milestone with its Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences formalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) for the 21st Session (2023-2025).

The MoU represents a key development in the professional growth and employability of Curtin Malaysia graduates in the quantity surveying field. The agreement was signed by Professor Roy Rillera Marzo, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, and Datuk Sr. Amran Mohd Majid, President of BQSM and Consultant Quantity Surveyor (CQS).

“This MoU cements a group registration framework that automatically qualifies graduates of our Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours) programme as Provisional Quantity Surveyors (PVQS),” said Professor Marzo.

He emphasised that this recognition not only complies with the Quantity Surveyors Act 1967 but also equips graduates with formal industry validation, enhancing their professional credibility and career prospects.

With PVQS status, Curtin Malaysia graduates gain access to structured training, mentorship programmes, and a seamless pathway to becoming Professional Quantity Surveyors (PQS) and eventually Consultant Quantity Surveyors (CQS) — the pinnacle of the profession.

“Employers highly value registered professionals for their adherence to ethical and professional standards,” Professor Marzo added. “The registration positions our graduates competitively in the job market, both locally and internationally, thanks to BQSM’s alignment with global quantity surveying practices.”

The MoU also opens doors to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, enabling graduates to stay ahead of industry trends and advancements. Networking opportunities, access to technical resources, and active participation in shaping industry policy are additional benefits.

“Beyond career progression, this registration builds trust among clients and stakeholders and supports our graduates in contributing to the growth of the profession,” said Professor Marzo.

This collaboration underscores Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and credentials necessary for success in the highly competitive field of quantity surveying. It further strengthens the university’s position as a leader in producing industry-ready graduates.
