Curtin Malaysia shines at MASISWA 2025 Sarawak Zone with 12-medal haul

Miri, Sarawak — 24 November 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) delivered a powerhouse performance at the Malaysian Private Higher Education Institutions Sports Council (MASISWA) Sports Championship 2025 Sarawak Zone, returning from Kuching with an impressive twelve medals and reaffirming its position as one of the region’s top-performing tertiary sports institutions.

Held from 20 to 23 November, this year’s championship brought together private institutions from across Sarawak in a spirited showcase of athletic excellence. Curtin Malaysia’s athletes rose to the challenge with remarkable skill, discipline, and determination, securing six gold, four silver, and two bronze medals across a broad range of events.

Curtin Malaysia’s futsal team claimed a significant triumph by securing the gold medal, setting the tone for the university’s strong overall performance. The table tennis squad emerged as one of the standout contributors, earning three gold medals in the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Women’s Doubles categories, in addition to a silver medal in the Men’s Singles event. The volleyball team further bolstered the medal count with a hard-fought silver.

In international chess, Curtin Malaysia demonstrated impressive strategic mastery, with the women’s team winning gold, the men’s team taking silver, and an individual Curtin Malaysia player securing a bronze medal.

The basketball team added to the achievements with an energetic and well-executed performance that earned them a gold medal. Completing the tally, Curtin Malaysia’s badminton contingent delivered a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles and a bronze in the Men’s Doubles.

The university’s success was made possible through the dedicated leadership of leading academics Dr. Yong Leong Kong and Delon Chai Wei Hao, who worked closely with the Curtin Malaysia Student Council to ensure the athletes received comprehensive support throughout the competition.

Reflecting on the university’s strong performance, Dr. Yong expressed immense pride, noting, “We are incredibly proud of our students’ success; this victory reflects countless hours of training, unwavering mutual support, and the resilience they demonstrated in the face of challenges.”

This year’s achievements at MASISWA 2025 reaffirm Curtin Malaysia’s dedication to holistic education, a philosophy that nurtures academic excellence while promoting physical, social, and personal development through competitive sports.
