Curtin Malaysia showcases future engineering leaders at 10th Civil and Environmental Engineering Research Conference

Miri, Sarawak – 6 December 2025 — Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) marked a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its 10th Civil and Environmental Engineering Research Conference (CEERC), organised by the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering under its Faculty of Engineering and Science.

Held in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch, the annual conference continues to serve as a key professional platform for final-year students to present their research in a setting that mirrors real-world engineering and industry conferences. This year’s event featured multiple parallel presentation sessions showcasing innovative student-led work across civil and environmental engineering fields.

The conference was further elevated by two thought-provoking webinars delivered by distinguished industry leaders.

The first keynote, presented by Dr. Ehsan Teymouri, a Curtin Malaysia alumnus and Science Team Lead at PurePave Technologies Inc., Canada, explored ‘From Research to Real-World Impact: The PurePave Journey’. Dr. Teymouri highlighted how advanced materials science is driving greener, more sustainable infrastructure solutions worldwide.

In the second session, Budiawan Paulus Handidjaja, General Manager and Director of Sterling Technical Services Sdn. Bhd., delivered an in-depth lecture on the ‘Evolution of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering’. His insights shed light on emerging industry challenges and the latest technological advancements shaping the field.

The guest lectures drew an engaged audience of final-year students, academic staff, and professional engineers. Attendees participated actively, raising questions about permeable pavement applications, sustainability, and the complexities of offshore geotechnical work, resulting in dynamic and fruitful discussions.

The conference concluded on a high note, widely praised for strengthening the link between academic research and industry practice. By exposing students to expert perspectives and current engineering challenges, CEERC continues to nurture the next generation of engineers equipped to deliver sustainable, impactful solutions.
