Curtin Malaysia strengthens education ties with Kolej Komuniti Miri through benchmark visit
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 15 May 2025 – In a move to strengthen academic partnerships and foster innovation in technical education, Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted a high-impact benchmark visit from Kolej Komuniti Miri, opening the door to future collaboration in infrastructure management, teaching support, and student development.
The visit brought together staff and students from Kolej Komuniti Miri for a hands-on tour of Curtin Malaysia’s state-of-the-art computer laboratories and mechanical workshops, where they gained valuable insights into the university’s facilities, technologies, and support systems.
Participants were given an insider’s view of Curtin Malaysia’s cutting-edge operations, from digital ticketing and maintenance systems to safety protocols and resource optimisation, led by Curtin Malaysia’s skilled laboratory team.
“This visit is part of our broader mission to share expertise and learn from our peers, as we continue to advance best practices in managing modern learning environments,” said Helda Puyang Jau, Laboratory Manager at Curtin Malaysia.
An interactive knowledge-sharing session followed, featuring presentations on the critical role of academic-technician collaboration in supporting high-quality teaching, learning, and research. Topics included facility planning, digital tools integration, and efficient maintenance scheduling.
Dr. Chew Ing Ming, the event coordinator, emphasised Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing collaborative relationships with fellow institutions. “We see such engagements as mutually enriching, enabling us to innovate together while supporting regional educational excellence.”
Kolej Komuniti Miri’s Deputy Director (Academic), Holinson Emang Wan, expressed deep appreciation for the experience. “Curtin Malaysia’s forward-thinking approach to infrastructure and its strong alignment with student needs offer valuable lessons. We are excited to take some of these ideas back and apply them in our own context.”
The visit concluded with discussions on potential future collaborations, including joint workshops, professional development initiatives, and student engagement programmes, cementing a shared vision for inclusive academic growth and continuous improvement.
