Curtin Malaysia strengthens industry–academia ties with palm oil site visit in Miri
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 2 January 2026 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) reinforced its commitment to sustainability and industry collaboration through a recent strategic site visit to Linau Mewah Sdn Bhd, a key player in Miri’s palm oil sector.
The visit was held in conjunction with the Sustainable Business, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence (SBTAI) Conference and World Tourism Day 2025 celebrations, co-hosted by Curtin Malaysia and Responsible Borneo (REBORN).
Led by Associate Dean of Research and Development Dr. Tiong Ying Ying and Associate Dean of External Engagement Dr. Ivy Hii from Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, the delegation included representatives from REBORN, WormingUp Malaysia, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University Indonesia, and UPM Sarawak.
During the visit, Linau Mewah’s management team provided an in-depth briefing on its palm oil operations in Miri, followed by an interactive dialogue exploring sustainability challenges, innovation, and opportunities for future collaboration. Discussions focused on bridging academic research with real-world industry practices to support responsible and sustainable development.
“This visit offered valuable first-hand insights into the operational realities and innovations shaping the palm oil industry,” said Dr. Tiong. “These perspectives will directly strengthen our research, teaching, and community engagement efforts.”
Dr. Hii highlighted the importance of industry engagement, adding, “Meaningful collaboration with companies like Linau Mewah enables Curtin Malaysia to contribute practical solutions to sustainability challenges while building strong, long-term academic–industry partnerships across the region.”
The visit reflects Curtin Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to foster strategic partnerships, promote sustainable practices, and enhance knowledge exchange with regional and international stakeholders.
