Curtin Malaysia students dive into future tech at immersive CENTEXS Bootcamp
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 26 November 2025 – Nineteen students from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) were among the first in the state to participate in the inaugural Discover CENTEXS – Tech-Driven Leaders Bootcamp 2025, a dynamic three-day programme held from 7 to 9 November at the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) in Santubong, Kuching.
Fully funded by CENTEXS and supported by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the bootcamp brought together students from six higher learning institutions for an immersive experience blending technology, leadership, and hands-on learning.
The participants enjoyed glamping-style accommodation, attended high-impact industry talks, and built meaningful connections with peers and professionals from across Sarawak’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem.
Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Lim Chye Ing, Associate Dean of External Engagement at Curtin Malaysia, said the programme highlights the university’s strong commitment to industry collaboration and talent development.
“The event provided our students with valuable real-world learning and upskilling opportunities through CENTEXS, as well as meaningful networking with industry professionals and peers from across Sarawak. It reflects Curtin Malaysia’s dedication, as Curtin University’s largest global campus and a Sarawak Government-owned institution, to preparing future-ready graduates,” she said.
The bootcamp marks the launch of a new state talent development initiative driven by CENTEXS in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak and supported by MEITD, aimed at nurturing a competitive, innovation-ready workforce for Sarawak’s future economy.
Key industry partners, namely Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC), SMD Semiconductor Sdn. Bhd., SLB, PETRONAS, Smart Innovation Sdn. Bhd., Dynamik Technologies & KARYADI, and PERKESO, played an important role in delivering the programme’s content.
Designed around three core goals, the bootcamp sought to build a highly skilled STEM and digital-savvy workforce, strengthen emotional intelligence and leadership capabilities, and bridge the industry–talent gap to ensure a smoother transition into the workforce.
Across the three days, the students engaged in a series of future-focused learning modules.“Emerging Technologies & Trends” introduced participants to fast-growing fields such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics. Meanwhile, “Tech Leadership & Emotional Intelligence” incorporated competitive gaming elements to build adaptability, communication under pressure, and collaborative problem-solving.
