Curtin Malaysia students gain real-world insights into Contract Law challenges
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 26 October 2026 – Understanding a contract goes beyond knowing the law on paper. For business professionals, it also means recognising risks, navigating complex obligations and making informed decisions. These real-world considerations took centre stage when Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) brought industry expertise into the classroom through a guest lecture for students studying Applied Contract Law (BLAW2012).
Organised by the university’s Faculty of Business, the 30-minute session featured Sanjeet Kaur Sidhu, Head of Corporate Governance and Legal at Curtin Malaysia. Her lecture, titled “The Issues and Challenges of a Contract,” explored the practical realities of contract law in corporate and professional settings.
Moving beyond textbook principles, the session encouraged students to examine how contractual issues can emerge in business transactions and why understanding contractual obligations, potential risks and legal challenges is essential in professional practice.
Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business, emphasised the importance of connecting academic learning with industry experience.
“Opportunities to learn directly from experienced professionals help our students connect classroom concepts with workplace realities, strengthening their grasp of professional practice and preparing them for the demands of modern business,” she said.
The value of bringing practical industry perspectives into the curriculum was also highlighted by course coordinator Dr. Mohammad Belayet Hossain, Senior Lecturer in Law, Accounting and Finance at the Faculty of Business.
“This guest lecture supported students in seeing how contractual principles function beyond textbooks. It encouraged them to actively identify, analyse and navigate real-world contractual risks and challenges in everyday business dealings,” he said.
The guest lecture reflects the Faculty of Business’ continued commitment to practice-oriented education and meaningful engagement with industry professionals. By exposing students to practical perspectives alongside academic foundations, Curtin Malaysia aims to develop graduates who can apply their knowledge, assess legal and commercial risks, and approach complex business challenges with greater confidence.
Through initiatives such as these, Curtin Malaysia continues to strengthen the link between university learning and professional practice, helping students build the skills and perspectives needed to navigate an increasingly complex business environment.
