Curtin Malaysia students turn creators and CEOs at ‘Made in Curtin’ Entrepreneurship Carnival
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 16 October 2025 – Over 300 students at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) stepped into the roles of creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs at the recent ‘Made in Curtin’ Entrepreneurship Carnival, transforming their campus into a buzzing marketplace of ideas, products, and performances.
Held at the Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre foyer, the one-day carnival featured more than 100 student-designed products – from handcrafted goods and creative cuisine to games and digital innovations -drawing in a lively crowd of students, staff, and community members.
Organised by the Department of General Studies under the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, the carnival a celebration of creativity as well as a live demonstration of real-world entrepreneurial learning.
“The energy was incredible. It felt like every student was a born entrepreneur,” said Project Manager Hii Teng Hua. “They didn’t just participate; they owned the moment.”
Visitors enjoyed live performances, open mic sessions, a popular booth voting competition, lucky draws, and interactive games – all led and managed by students. Each booth told its own story of passion and perseverance, with students involved in every step, from concept to creation to customer engagement.
Second-year student Rick Lamoss called the event “a journey of growth.” “From planning performances to connecting with the community, it wasn’t just about selling – it was about learning, adapting, and working as a team,” he said.
Event Coordinator Farahezza Hairon Nizar highlighted the event’s educational impact. “This was active learning in action,” she said. “Students weren’t just studying entrepreneurship; they were living it. They developed products, managed logistics, promoted their booths, and engaged customers. These are exactly the kinds of adaptable, creative skills they will need in the evolving gig economy.”
She added that entrepreneurship is now a mindset essential across all professions, and events like this give students the confidence to turn ideas into action.
The ‘Made in Curtin’ Entrepreneurship Carnival reinforced Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to experiential learning, equipping students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and contribute meaningfully – both in business and beyond.
