Curtin Malaysia tourism students gain industry insights at Miri Visitors’ Information Centre

Miri, Sarawak – 2 April 2025 Tourism students from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently had the opportunity to deepen their industry knowledge and expand their professional networks during an insightful study visit to the Miri Visitors’ Information Centre (VIC).

Accompanied by their lecturer, the students engaged with tourism professionals, gaining firsthand exposure to the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping Sarawak’s tourism landscape.

The visit underscored the vital role of industry-academic collaboration in equipping students with practical insights and professional connections that will benefit their future careers. Interactive sessions with tourism professionals provided students with real-world perspectives on the evolving sector, from sustainable tourism practices to strategies for enhancing visitor experiences in Sarawak.

Dr. Ho Jie Min, Discipline Lead for Marketing and Tourism Programmes at Curtin Malaysia, highlighted the significance of such industry engagements in shaping well-rounded graduates. “This visit provided our students with an invaluable platform to interact with industry experts and gain deeper insights into the tourism sector in Sarawak. Practical exposure like this is essential in preparing them to become future leaders in the industry,” she said.
