Curtin Malaysia’s Construction Management degree earns global recognition with AIQS accreditation
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 5 July 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has achieved a landmark academic recognition with its Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management (Honours) programme receiving full accreditation from the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) – a major endorsement of its global standard of excellence.
The accreditation not only places Curtin Malaysia among an elite group of institutions with internationally recognised construction programmes, but also reaffirms its role in producing industry-ready graduates poised to lead Sarawak’s green infrastructure transformation.
“This is a proud moment for Curtin Malaysia,” said Dr. Low Wai Wah, Head of the Department of Built Environment at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences. “It reflects the unwavering commitment of teams at our campuses in Miri and Perth to maintain academic excellence and deep industry alignment.”
She noted that the programme’s rigorous curriculum and strong industry partnerships have consistently prepared students for impactful careers in quantity surveying, project management, and construction consultancy. “Our students are trained to meet Sarawak’s infrastructure challenges while embracing global sustainability and digital innovation,” she added.
Professor Vincent Lee, Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, highlighted how the programme has long been a catalyst for change. “For over seven years, we have embedded sustainability and digitalisation into every facet of learning, from green materials and renewable energy integration to carbon-neutral project planning,” he said.
He added that Curtin Malaysia graduates are already contributing to Sarawak’s green economy, supporting the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 targets and helping meet the region’s critical infrastructure demands.
The four-year honours degree, recently enhanced in 2023, now features a Quantity Surveying specialisation and integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, carbon-tracking tools, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Developed collaboratively with leading industry stakeholders in both Malaysia and Australia, the curriculum delivers robust training in construction technologies, cost estimation, project planning, contract administration, and essential leadership and communication skills.
Professionally recognised across both Malaysia and Australia, the programme holds multiple accreditations from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM), and Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS). Additionally, its counterpart programme in Perth is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Australian Institute of Building (AIB), and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The AIQS endorsement enhances Curtin Malaysia’s global reputation and assures students, parents, and employers of the programme’s relevance, rigour, and professional integrity.
To further meet the talent needs of project-driven industries, Curtin Malaysia also offers postgraduate programmes in Project Management, including a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, and Master of Science, catering to professionals across sectors such as construction, engineering, healthcare, events, IT, and education.
Curtin Malaysia’s forward-thinking, industry-aligned education model continues to drive human capital development in line with Sarawak’s PCDS 2030 goals and national aspirations for sustainable, future-ready growth.
