Curtin Malaysia’s Dr. Paran Gani inspires at BIWWEC 2024 with innovative phycoremediation solutions
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 27 November 2024 – Dr. Paran Gani, a leading academic from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), took the spotlight at the Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 recently, sharing transformative insights on using microalgae for sustainable wastewater treatment.
Held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), this year’s BIWWEC drew over 1,000 participants, 60 exhibitors, and 50 international speakers, all gathered under the theme ‘Bridging Solutions for Water Sustainability’. The event served as a dynamic platform to explore cutting-edge advancements in digital technology, resilient infrastructure, and the vital water-energy nexus.
Representing Curtin Malaysia’s Civil and Construction Engineering Department, Dr. Paran impressed the audience with his innovative approach to phycoremediation, showcasing how microalgae can transform wastewater pollutants into valuable resources. His presentation emphasised how this nature-powered method promotes sustainable water management while addressing urgent environmental challenges.
“Microalgae not only clean our wastewater but inspire a vision of turning waste into a resource, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future,” said Dr. Paran.
His compelling insights garnered positive feedback from attendees, including industry leaders who praised his visionary work and expressing strong interest in collaborating to implement phycoremediation in municipal and industrial systems.
“Dr. Paran’s innovative approach has opened new doors for sustainable water treatment solutions,” said a representative from the Malaysian Water Association, reflecting the enthusiasm of many attendees.
