Curtin Malaysia’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department secures prestigious six-year accreditation
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 19 September 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is celebrating a major academic milestone with its Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours) programme receiving a full six-year accreditation (2026–2031) from the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC).
This recognition confirms that the programme meets the rigorous standards of the Washington Accord and other international benchmarks. Graduates are formally recognised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), giving them professional mobility and a competitive edge in both Malaysian and global engineering markets.
Professor Tuong-Vu Thuy, Dean of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, hailed the accreditation as a significant achievement for the university. “This recognition reflects not only the strength of our programme but also Curtin Malaysia’s growing reputation as a regional leader in engineering education. Our graduates are industry-ready, adaptable, and well-prepared to thrive in fast-changing industries worldwide,” he said.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is known for its industry-relevant curriculum that blends theory with practice, supported by modern laboratories and strong industry partnerships. Its students regularly shine on the national and international stage, with recent triumphs including first place at the IEEE R10 SAC Video Contest 2023, silver award at the International Final Year Project Competition & Exhibition (I-CPEX) 2023, first runner-up at the IEEE Tech Master Championship 2023, national champion at Shell’s 2024 #ShellSelamatSampai Varsity Challenge, and the top two spots and six top-ten placements at the AWS Cloud Quest: Cloud Practitioner Tournament 2024.
Beyond academic excellence, the department champions a holistic approach to student development, encouraging participation in clubs, leadership activities, and community engagement. This ensures its graduates are not only technically proficient but also well-rounded professionals ready to tackle global challenges.
In addition to the accredited Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours) programme, the department also offers the Bachelor of Computing (Software Engineering), Bachelor of Computing (Cyber security), and Bachelor of Technology (Networking and Management Systems). With intakes every February and July, it continues to attract ambitious students seeking a future-proof education driven by innovation, sustainability, and real-world impact.
