Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business welcomes new students

Miri – 25 July 2022 –The Faculty of Business of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently held a ‘faculty session’ for its new undergraduate students to welcome them to the Faculty and the new semester.

On hand to welcome them was Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor Andreas Zins. He said the situation on campus was more or less back to normal after the reopening of the campus for physical classes in March and the gradual resumption of campus activities. Starting this semester, all classes will be in full face-to-face mode.

“New students joining us this semester will experience some exciting new features in learning and teaching implemented as a result of lessons learnt during the pandemic and a re-evaluation of the evolving needs of our students,” he said.

Prof. Zins also shared Curtin University’s core values and commitment to providing richly interactive and personalised learning experiences for students, equipping them with leadership skills for the future, and valuing them as partners in education and research and as long-term influencers of change within society. In addition, the students learned about the governance structure, and the variety of activities and student support services, offered by the Faculty.

The students also heard from Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching Dr. Fayrene Chieng and the heads of the Faculty’s departments of Accounting, Finance and Economics, and Management, Marketing and Digital Business. They spoke on topics such as academic integrity, the Curtin graduate capabilities, course structure, and career prospects in various disciplines.

Meanwhile, an online orientation session was also held for students taking the Master of International Business (MIB) coursework degree. While the MIB is a relatively new offering at Curtin Malaysia, Professor Andreas assured the students that the University has sufficient resources and facilities, both in Miri and its main campus in Perth, to conduct the course effectively and help the students build their postgraduate credentials and further strengthen their business knowledge and skills.

Curtin Malaysia will produce its first batch of MIB graduates at the end of Semester 2 (in December 2022). As the course equips students with the necessary research skills and knowledge in the disciplines, Prof. Zins encouraged the MIB students to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees with Curtin Malaysia after completing the course.

Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business is one of the leading providers of business education nationally, offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate business courses, while strong connections with industry ensure that students are aligned with the latest industry trends.

The Faculty’s graduates enjoy an impressive employability rate due to such connections, which effectively serve the needs of both student and employer. Meanwhile, all the courses offered at the Faculty are accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and relevant national and international professional bodies.
