Curtin Malaysia’s FTES briefing in Bintulu draws strong community response
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 23 February 2026 – About 80 community leaders, government agency representatives, parents and school teachers gathered at the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) Auditorium in Bintulu recently for a comprehensive briefing on the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), organised by Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).
The strong turnout reflects growing public interest in the Sarawak Government’s higher education assistance initiatives, particularly the implementation of FTES aimed at expanding access to tertiary education for eligible Sarawakians.
The session was delivered by Muhamad Rahman Sallehin, Manager of External Engagement at Curtin Malaysia, who provided the participants with detailed insights into the scheme and related financial aid opportunities offered through Yayasan Sarawak. Also present was Nita Bohari, External Engagement Officer (Domestic Student Recruitment), who engaged directly with attendees on admission pathways and programme options.
Beyond outlining the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme, the briefing highlighted key assistance programmes including the Yayasan Sarawak Convertible Loan Scholarship, Early Admission Assistance, Sarawak Government Laptop Assistance, and Special Financial Assistance – all designed to ensure that financial constraints do not stand in the way of academic ambition.
The participants showed keen interest in Curtin Malaysia’s Foundation and Diploma programmes, recognising them as strategic entry pathways that provide students with a strong academic base before progressing to degree studies in various professional disciplines.
With its March 2026 intake now open, Curtin Malaysia continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Sarawak’s human capital development agenda by delivering globally recognised education, modern learning facilities, and strong graduate employability outcomes.
