Curtin Malaysia’s Mechanical Engineering programme achieves prestigious EAC accreditation
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 11 February 2025 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has achieved a significant milestone in engineering education as its Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) programme was recently granted full accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) of Malaysia. This prestigious accreditation, awarded for six years (2025–2030), marks a major achievement for the university, solidifying its standing as a leading global player in engineering education.
The EAC’s recognition ensures that Curtin Malaysia’s Mechanical Engineering programme meets both national and international education standards, including compliance with the Washington Accord. This means that graduates will not only be recognised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) but will also enjoy enhanced professional opportunities across the globe, reinforcing their employability in a highly competitive industry.
Professor Vincent Lee, Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, expressed pride in the accreditation. “This achievement highlights the exceptional quality of our education, research, and industry collaborations. It speaks to the relentless dedication of our faculty, students, and industry partners in shaping the future of engineering,” said Professor Lee.
Professor Thuy Tuong Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, further underscored the significance of the accreditation. “This endorsement reflects the strength of our academic foundation and research-driven approach. Our students are equipped with industry-relevant skills, ensuring they are ready to lead in the rapidly evolving global engineering sector.”
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Mohan Moola Reddy, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, echoed the sentiments, calling the accreditation a testament to the hard work of the department’s academic team. “Our programme continually evolves to meet industry demands, providing our graduates with the competencies and innovative mindsets necessary to tackle the engineering challenges of tomorrow,” Associate Professor Mohan stated.
The four-year Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) programme at Curtin Malaysia is designed to foster innovation, sustainability, and industry-ready expertise. The programme’s accreditation guarantees that graduates will be highly competent professionals, prepared to make a significant impact in a variety of engineering sectors worldwide.
