Curtin Sarawak holding graduation ceremonies and related events on 25 and 26 April

Miri – 11 April 2014 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) will be holding its annual Award and Scholarship Ceremony, graduation ceremonies for its graduating classes of 2013, and Curtin Sarawak Alumni Dinner this 25 and 26 April 2014.

On 25 April, the Award and Scholarship Ceremony will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

In the morning of 26 April, the graduation ceremonies of Curtin Sarawak’s School of Business and School of Engineering and Science will be held concurrently at the university’s Recreation and Event Centre, followed by the School of Continuing Studies’ in the afternoon.

Capping the graduation events will be the Alumni Dinner for all Curtin Sarawak alumni, including all the new graduates, at the Musical Corridor at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in the evening of 26 April.

A 7-member delegation from Curtin University in Perth headed by Acting Chancellor Sue Wilson and newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry will be visiting Miri for the events.

In addition to the graduation events, the delegation will attend Curtin Sarawak’s 15th Year Anniversary Event on 26 April, which will also be attended by members of Curtin Sarawak’s campus council, management board and board of directors, as well as all staff and student council members of the campus.

The Award and Scholarship Ceremony will see students of the university being recognised for academic excellence, outstanding extracurricular activities and community service contributions. Scholarships from Curtin and its industry partners, as well as individual donors, will also be presented to deserving students.

At the Graduation Ceremony, 258 students of the School of Business will graduate from the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce programmes, and 57 postgraduate students from the Master of Accounting, Master of Policy Sciences and Master of Science (Project Management) programmes and Doctor of Philosophy.

The School of Engineering and Science will see 186 students graduate from the Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology) and Bachelor of Technology (Computer Systems and Networking) programmes, and nine from its Master of Philosophy (majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science), Master of Engineering Science (Electrical Engineering) programmes and Doctor of Philosophy.

Meanwhile, 91 students from the School of Continuing Studies will graduate from the Diploma of Business, Diploma of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, and Diploma of Process Plant Technology programmes, which are offered in collaboration with Australia’s Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE (GippsTAFE).

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, chairman of the Curtin Sarawak Campus Council, is expected to officiate at all the events. Assistant Minister of Sports and Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also the chairman of Curtin Sarawak’s Management Board, will also be present, along with Curtin Sarawak Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Jim Mienczakowski, and Curtin (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd chairman Dato’ Dr. Hatta bin Solhi.

Students who completed their programmes at the end of Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2013 and have met all requirements for graduation have been invited to attend their respective graduation ceremonies.
