Curtin Sarawak’s School of Continuing Studies donates funds and entertains residents at Miri Old Folks Home

Miri – 13 June 2014 – 20 students of the School of Continuing Studies of Curtin University, Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) recently visited the Miri Old Folks Home to donate funds raised from their food fair fundraising event held last month. During the visit, they also held a talk for the home’s residents and entertained them with singing sessions.

The students were accompanied by the head of the school, Bibi Aminah Abdul Ghani, and associate lecturer of diploma studies (business) Tan Sin Sieng and corporate communications officer Lilian Lai.

Lai said the residents were very pleased to receive the group and invited more caring members of the public to pay them regular visits.

According to Sister Emily, one of the five caretakers at the home, the residents always look forward to visitors calling at the home and they enjoy activities such as singing and dancing.

She also highlighted the home’s need for continued public support, whether through donations or community service such as helping spruce up the home or conducting activities for the residents.

The Miri Old Folks Home is managed by the Miri Chinese Charitable Trust Board and has some 28 residents. It receives funding from the Miri Welfare Department as well as from public donations.
