Curtin University expands educational ties between Malaysia and Thailand

Miri – 7 March 2024 – Curtin University, in collaboration with Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), its global camp us in Malaysia, has taken a significant stride in fostering international educational partnerships with the signing of a collaborative programme agreement with Pathumwan City College (PCC) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Under this groundbreaking agreement, which was signed in Bangkok recently, the newly-opened PCC, which is part of Bangkok’s prestigious Pathumwan Institute of Technology, will deliver Curtin Malaysia’s Foundation programmes, namely the Foundation in Engineering and Science and Foundation in Arts and Commerce. To facilitate this, academic staff of Curtin Malaysia will pay PCC regular academic visits, and provide PCC staff the necessary orientation and training.

This strategic alliance aims to provide a seamless transition for Thai and other international students aspiring to pursue higher education at Curtin University in Perth, Curtin Malaysia, or any other Curtin global campuses. In addition to Malaysia, Curtin has global campuses in Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius.

Furthermore, the collaboration opens the door for PCC students to explore and join undergraduate programmes at any of the Curtin campuses, enhancing cross-cultural learning experiences and promoting academic excellence.

Upon successful completion of the Foundation in Engineering and Science, PCC students are eligible to enter the following degree programmes at Curtin Malaysia or any of the other Curtin global campuses: Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in either Chemical Engineering, Civil and Construction Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; Bachelor of Computing in Cyber Security or Software Engineering; Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking; Bachelor of Applied Geology; Bachelor of Science in Health, Safety and Environment; Bachelor of Science in Psychological Science, and Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management.

Meanwhile, students who successfully complete the Foundation in Arts and Commerce can enter degree programmes such as the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Communications, and Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management.

Signing on behalf of Curtin University and Curtin Malaysia, respectively, were Professor Mark Ogden, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Curtin Perth, and Professor Simon Leunig, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia. Meanwhile, signing for PCC was Adjunct Professor Chieanchuang Kalayanmitr, Interim Rector.

Expressing confidence in the success of the partnership, Professor Leunig said the partnership reflects Curtin University’s commitment to global education and underscores the importance of international collaboration in shaping the future of higher education.
