Curtin webinar on optimisation and LINGO Software captivates engineers
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 6 June 2024 – The Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Student Section, in collaboration with the Young Engineers Section (YES) Miri branch, recently hosted a highly engaging online webinar on Optimisation and LINGO Software, drawing over 30 participants, including industry professionals beyond the Curtin Malaysia campus.
Moderated by Jameson Malang, a teaching fellow in the Department of Science and Technology at Curtin Malaysia’s School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE) and advisor to the Curtin Malaysia IEM Student Section, the webinar offered a comprehensive exploration of optimisation techniques, with a focus on the powerful LINGO software. This event provided an excellent platform for participants to delve into the intricacies of optimisation, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
The event saw notable attendance from Raymond Lo Chee Shuan, president of the Curtin Malaysia IEM Student Section; Ts. Francis Liaw Zhen Zhen, chairman of the IEM-YES Miri Branch; and Dr. Evelyn Chiong Tung, a lecturer and advisor to the Curtin Malaysia IEM Student Section.
The highlight of the webinar was an enlightening presentation by Ir. Dr. Christine Yeo Wan Sieng, a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science. Ir. Dr. Yeo, with her extensive experience in the environmental and oil & gas industries, delivered invaluable insights, making complex concepts accessible and engaging.
Jameson emphasised the significance of the webinar, stating, “The participants explored the fundamental concepts of optimisation, learning about its purpose and the practical applications of LINGO software in optimisation. The session highlighted LINGO’s dynamic capabilities, showcasing it as a versatile tool not just for engineers but across various industries. LINGO simplifies the process, making it easier to build, understand, and solve large-scale problems.”
To reinforce the learning objectives, a Kahoot quiz was conducted at the end of the session, providing participants with an interactive and enjoyable way to recap and solidify their understanding.
