Entrepreneurship talk ignites passion for innovation among Curtin Malaysia students

Miri, Sarawak – 2 December 2024 – First-semester business students at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) were recently inspired by the entrepreneurial insights of Dr. Fredrick Khoo, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of business and entrepreneurial development specialists DFK BEST Sdn. Bhd., during a dynamic talk titled ‘The Foundations of Entrepreneurship’.

Organised by the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, the event aimed to equip budding entrepreneurs with real-world insights and practical knowledge from an industry leader.

Drawing from his journey as a successful entrepreneur and holder of a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Dr. Khoo shared invaluable lessons on resilience, innovation, and strategic planning. He captivated the students with personal anecdotes about overcoming challenges, adapting to market changes, and creating opportunities in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape.

“Entrepreneurship is not just about having a good idea; it’s about resilience, creative problem-solving, and strategic execution,” said Dr. Khoo. He encouraged students to embrace setbacks as learning opportunities and to cultivate a growth mindset that fosters continuous improvement.

Dr. Khoo also outlined actionable strategies for building sustainable businesses, such as conducting thorough market research, identifying niche markets, and leveraging innovation to stand out.

The talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students explored topics ranging from overcoming entrepreneurial hurdles to leveraging technology for business growth.

Dr Mohammad Belayet Hossain, a lecturer in business law who is also the talk organising chairman praised the event for its real-world applicability: “Dr. Khoo’s talk brilliantly combined real-world experiences with practical strategies, leaving students inspired and well-informed about the entrepreneurial journey.” He said such talk will bridge the gap between academic learning and industry experience, inspiring our students to think big and act boldly.

The session left students not only motivated but also better equipped with tools to navigate the entrepreneurial journey. Events like these reflect Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to fostering innovation and preparing future leaders for success in the global business arena.
