Financial Literacy Day 2026 to equip young adults in Miri with skills for smarter financial futures

Miri, Sarawak – 6 October 2026 – Young adults will have the opportunity to strengthen their financial know-how, explore careers in the financial services sector and learn how to protect themselves from financial scams at Financial Literacy Day 2026, to be held on 9 October at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).

Organised by Curtin Malaysia in collaboration with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the one-day event will bring together students, staff, industry professionals and financial institutions to promote practical financial knowledge, responsible money management and career readiness.

Held at the university’s Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre and LT Foyer, the event is designed to move financial literacy beyond theory by giving participants access to expert advice, interactive activities and practical financial services.

The programme will feature financial literacy talks by representatives from EPF, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK).

Sessions will cover topics particularly relevant to young adults, including responsible credit management, starting retirement savings early, and recognising and avoiding financial scams.

One of the key highlights will be the career forum, “Future Ready: Building a Career in Malaysia’s Financial Services Industry”, featuring speakers from EPF, BNM and the Malaysia Financial Planning Council (MFPC).

The forum will give students an inside look at career pathways in the financial services industry, the skills and qualities employers seek, and emerging opportunities in a sector that plays a vital role in Malaysia’s economy.

Professor Pauline Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Business at Curtin Malaysia, said financial literacy is an essential life skill for young adults navigating an increasingly complex financial landscape.

“Financial literacy is not simply about knowing how to budget or save. It is about having the knowledge and confidence to make sound financial decisions, recognise potential risks and build a stronger financial future,” she said.

“By connecting our students directly with financial institutions and industry professionals, Financial Literacy Day provides them with practical insights that can support both their personal financial well-being and their future careers.”

Adding to the experience, the LT Foyer will feature interactive booths by EPF, BNM, AKPK, RHB Bank and PMG Healthcare, where participants can access services and activities including free health screening, CCRIS checks, financial advisory services and EPF registration.

The event will also showcase initiatives by Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, including FinPintar, a financial literacy challenge; Virtual Auditing demonstrations; and an Artisan Market featuring student entrepreneurship initiatives.

The collaboration between Curtin Malaysia and EPF reflects a shared commitment to strengthening financial well-being and equipping the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions and navigate their personal and professional futures with greater confidence.

Students, staff and members of the public are encouraged to take part in Financial Literacy Day 2026. Registered participants will also receive complimentary lunch packs, ZUS Coffee vouchers, giveaways and other promotional items.
