Industrial talk at Curtin Sarawak enhances learning of final-year students

Miri – 6 May 2014 – To supplement the classroom learning of their final-year students, the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Chemical & Petroleum Engineering of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently hosted an industrial talk entitled ‘Malaysian Oil and Gas Industry: A Graduate Engineer Perspective’.

The talk was delivered by Dr. Dasline Sinta, Chief Executive Officer and Principal Consultant (Oil and Gas) of Dream Catcher Energy Sdn. Bhd. Also present was Hsien Loong, an officer at Dream Catcher Energy.

Dr. Dasline previously worked with Sarawak Shell Berhad, serving the company in various capacities and locations, including the Sultanate of Oman. He then joined Petra Energy Berhad in 2007 as a senior general manager managing its East Malaysia operations, which included offshore oil and gas construction, topside maintenance and engineering, trading, as well as supporting their overall corporate activities.

With a 25-year background in the engineering discipline and project management in the oil and gas industry, Dr. Dasline has extensive knowledge and experience in new oil and gas technologies, financial planning, project development and management skills.

According to senior lecturer of electrical and electronic engineering Dr. Garenth Lim King Hann and lecturer of chemical engineering Dr. Mesfin Getu Woldetensay, industry talks are an integral part of students’ learning at Curtin Sarawak, particularly for final-year students, to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas industry in Malaysia.

The talk also provided an opportunity for the students to establish contact with Dream Catcher Energy Sdn. Bhd. as the company is continuously looking for potential graduates from the university to work in the oil and gas engineering field.
