Lambir Eco Amazing Race 2026 to put 400 runners to the test at Lambir Hills National Park
Posted date:Miri, Sarawak – 1 October 2026 – The trails of Lambir Hills National Park will come alive on 28 November as around 400 runners take on the Lambir Eco Amazing Race (LEAR) 2026, combining endurance, adventure and environmental awareness in one of Miri’s annual outdoor sporting events.
Now in its third edition, LEAR 2026 is open exclusively to Malaysian citizens and will be held from 6 am to 11.30 am on Saturday, 28 November 2026.
Organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) in collaboration with Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), the event aims to promote an active and healthy lifestyle while encouraging greater appreciation of Lambir Hills’ rich biodiversity and natural landscapes.
MYSED Miri Division Divisional Officer Nuruddin Sabali said the race would challenge participants physically while giving them an opportunity to experience one of Sarawak’s renowned natural environments.
“Through this race, we are encouraging responsible trail running while raising vital awareness about preserving this delicate ecosystem,” Nuruddin said.
Beyond the race itself, participants and visitors can explore an environmental exhibition showcasing the park’s biodiversity and a Community Market featuring local small entrepreneurs, creating additional opportunities for the community to benefit from the event.
Datuk Dr. Ripin Bin Lamat, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, will be the Guest of Honour and will present prizes to the winners.
LEAR 2026 features two competitive categories for both men and women. The Malaysian Open (9.6km) is open to Malaysians aged 18 and above, with the champion receiving RM3,000, followed by RM1,200 for second place, RM1,000 for third, RM650 for fourth and RM400 for fifth. Runners placing sixth to 10th will receive RM150 each.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Veteran (4.5km) category is open to Malaysians aged 45 and above, with RM1,500 awarded to the champion, RM800 for second place, RM500 for third, RM300 for fourth and RM200 for fifth. Runners placing sixth to 10th will receive RM100 each.
The RM60 registration fee includes an event T-shirt, official bib number, custom finisher medal, tote bag and post-race refreshments.
Registered participants will also be eligible for the competitive categories and an exclusive lucky draw featuring prizes worth more than RM4,000. Lucky draw prizes include a Suunto Race 2 Watch, Pangu Run 3 Earphones and Sports Direct Gift Vouchers.
