Public invited to Curtin Sarawak’s Senadin Safety Campaign
Posted date:Miri – 30 October 2014 – Members of the public in Miri are invited to participate in the Senadin Safety Campaign being organised by the Student Council of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 1 November from 10.00am – 5.00pm at the university’s Auditorium.
The campaign’s objective is to address safety issues and crime prevention in Desa Senadin and surrounding areas, as well as promote personal safety and wellbeing among the residents of the housing area which has an estimated population of about 100,000. Curtin Sarawak sits on a 1,000-acre campus adjacent to Desa Senadin and has university-managed student accommodations in three neighbourhood locations.
Speakers from the Police Department, Fire and Rescue Department, NGOs and Neighbourhood Watch have been invited to deliver talks on safety issues based on their professional and personal experiences. Also attending the event will be Miri City Mayor Lawrence Lai.
Apart from the talks, there will be demonstrations on preventing, and protecting oneself from, snatch thefts, assaults, kidnappings and scams. The police and Fire and Rescue Department will also demonstrate how they tackle security and safety issues in the city.
The event will also see the handover of bicycles by the Majulah Miri Centre to the Senadin Neighbourhood Watch, petition-signing for the establishment of a police station in Desa Senadin, and the conducting of a student survey regarding security patrols in residential areas.
