3rd Curtin Open Bowling Competition attracts over 80 bowlers

Miri – 6 November 2014 – Over 80 bowlers from all over East Malaysia took part in the recent 3rd Curtin Open Bowling Competition organised by the Curtin Bowling Club of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak).

With a total of 20 participating teams, the competition at Mega Lanes East, Bintang Megamall was the largest ever organised by the Curtin Bowling Club. The event was officiated by Curtin Sarawak’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Ir. Yudi Samyudia.

Each team was required to compete in three rounds of games and the grand score was used to determine the winners. The top three teams were awarded cash prizes, trophies and hampers.

The team category was won by ‘Borneo 300’ comprising Brandon Ting, Patrick Fisher, Nabila Husna and Rizwan Abdullah. In second place was ‘MBM’ comprising Sahran bin Jara’ee, Jufrija bin Adam, Nor Rashidah binti Nawawi and Hipeni Saridi. ‘Petronas’ consisting of Mohd Harith, Hasni Juny, Fatimah Ayup and Arnie bin Buang came in third.

Teams ranked fourth and fifth were awarded vouchers and medals, while the sixth to tenth ranked teams were rewarded with consolation medals.

Brandon Ting from ‘Borneo 300’ was adjudged the Best Individual Male Player, while Hipeni Saridi and Rizwan Abdullah were declared the first and second runner-ups for the prize.

Nor Rashidah binti Nawawi from ‘MBM’ clinched the Best Individual Female Player title, followed by Nadia Abdullah and Nabila Husna in second and third place.

Each winner from the individual category won a trophy and Miri Marriott Resort and Spa hotel room voucher. The first runner-ups were awarded a trophy and ParkCity Hotel Room Voucher each, while the second runners-ups received trophies and KTune vouchers.

The event was sponsored by Dato’ Sebastian Ting, Captain Lau Choo Mee, Dato Professor Lau Siu Wai, KTune Karaoke, Kbox Karaoke, Miri Marriott Resort and Spa, Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri, MYSK Petrol Station Petronas Desa Senadin, the Curtin Sarawak Student Council and the Sports and Recreation Services Department of Curtin Sarawak.

Curtin Bowling Club advisor and associate lecturer of engineering mathematics Jameson Malang said that he was glad that the competition was a great success and he is looking forward to hosting an even bigger event next year. He also thanked all the sponsors and participants for their support towards the event.
