Talented individuals invited to participate in Miri’s Got Talent 4

Miri – 22 August 2014 – The Leo Club of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is organising the fourth edition of the Miri’s Got Talent Competition in conjunction with the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2014 on 20 September 2014.

The competition is being organised with the support of the Curtin Sarawak Open Day Committee and the Curtin Sarawak Student Council.

Entries are now open for members of the public who are interested to showcase their talents in a group (maximum 10 persons) or on an individual basis.

The eventual champion will win a RM1,000 cash prize while the first and second runner-ups will win cash prizes of RM800 and RM500 respectively. The winner of the People’s Choice Award, who will be determined through an on-the-spot ballot on the day, will win a RM200 cash prize. All semi-finalists and finalists will also receive certificates of participation.

Each participant or group is required to complete and submit a registration form with a RM20 participation fee to the organisers by 31 August 2014.The forms can be downloaded from the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2014 website at www.curtin.edu.my/openday2014/miri_talent.htm or the Miri’s Got Talent 4 Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mirigottalent4.

Completed registration forms are to be sent by email with the subject title ‘Miri’s Got Talent 4’ to mirigottalent4@gmail.comwongyinghao94@gmail.com or giahorng93@hotmail.com. In addition, each participant or group must upload a 2 to 3-minute video clip (minimum 360HP) showing their intended performances on the competition Facebook page, Miri Got Talent 4, or any other video host site with a link posted on the Facebook page by 1 September 2014.

Only videos posted on the Miri Got Talent 4 page will be considered. All videos received will be rated by the organising committee and the selected entries will proceed to the semi-finals. Those selected will be informed via email or SMS by 2 September 2014.

The semi-finals will be judged by three professional judges, following which the top eight individuals or groups chosen by the judges will compete in the finals during the Open Day on 20 September 2014.

The finals will be held at the event’s main stage where much of the day’s activities will take place. Participants are advised to provide their own musical instruments, if required.

Other contests and competitions being held in conjunction with Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2014 are a Fishing Competition and Newspaper Bag Design & Break Competition, both of which are open to the public, and a Mr & Miss Curtin Contest and Curtin – CPA Australia Entrepreneurship Challenge, which is open to students of the university.

In addition, there will be an Innovation Expo; Future Students’ Booth and academic activities for invited secondary school students; car and big bike shows; Melanau Tibou and cultural showcase; Charity & Community Corner; stage performances; Kiddies’ Corner; free health checks, blood donation drive and mobile dental clinic; food and beverage stalls and games booths; 15th Anniversary Exhibition; and attractive door gifts and lucky draw prizes.

The Curtin Sarawak Open Day is the grandest and most anticipated annual event at the Curtin Sarawak campus and an occasion for the university to showcase its facilities, academic programmes and vibrant campus life amidst much fun and festivity. This year’s event is of special significance as it mark’s Curtin Sarawak’s fifteenth year anniversary and there will be much celebration of its achievements since its establishment as the first international campus of Curtin University in 1999. A record 7,412 visitors attended last year’s event and the university hopes to break the 10,000 mark this year.
