Public forum at Curtin Sarawak on consumer rights, interests and GST
Posted date:Miri – 20 May 2015 – A public forum entitled ‘Consumer Rights, Interests, GST and You’ will be held on 22 May from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm at the Council Room of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak).
This forum organised by Curtin Sarawak’s Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business and Humanities, aims to disseminate information on consumerisms, interests and GST as well as to position Curtin Sarawak as the preferred platform for such open discourse and discussion of issues affecting the Miri community.
The forum will feature panel speakers Head of Enforcement of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Sarawak Abdul Hafidz bin Abdul Rahim and Custom Superintendent from Miri Division Customs Department Tuan Jena Jelema.
It will be moderated by the Head of Department of Accounting Cecilia Anthony Das and Industry Collaboration Advisor and Deputy Chair of External Relations Chan Kwok Mow, both from the Faculty of Business and Humanities.
At the forum, the participants will be able to discuss on GST issues such as why Malaysia needs GST and its benefits to the country and people, GST model in Malaysia, GST enforcement and price control in the market and other related matters.
Meanwhile, on consumerism, questions such as how consumers might file a claim for hearing by the Consumer Claims Tribunal, can parties to the dispute settle without attending the hearing and how awards are decided as well as related matters will also be discussed.
